Our Facility

The Sandoval County Landfill and Composting Facility is located at 2708 Iris Rd NE, Rio Rancho, NM. Our hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.. We are closed on Sundays and on most holidays. The Landfill will also close if there is inclement weather or if winds exceed 25 mph.

Cash only, no Credit Cards, Debit Cards or Personal Checks, Business checks are OK.

Loads larger than a standard pickup truck, must be in the gate before 3:30 pm or you will need to bring it back the next working day, this includes all trailers, no exceptions, due to time restraints of our normal operating hours.

***Please note that for safety, the County may suspend landfill operations during high winds, rain or snow.

The landfill and waste collection centers in Cuba, Canon and Pena Blanca are operating on normal schedule.

Anything larger than a pickup truck load needs to be at the Landfill by 3:30 p.m. This includes all trailers no exception.

    Materials ACCEPTED at the landfill:

    • Residential waste
    • Residential recycling items (accepted only at the main landfill site on Iris Rd NE in Rio Rancho)
    • Residential Household Hazardous Waste for a $20 fee (accepted only at the main landfill site on Iris Rd NE in Rio Rancho)
      • Only residential grade items to include: aerosol spray cans, televisions ($20 fee applies), pesticides, anti-freeze, fuels, paints, car batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, pool chemicals, cleaners, solvents, computers, oil/oil filters.
    • Construction & Demolition waste (no asbestos, must provide copy of document of inspection if building was built prior to 1980).(accepted only at the main landfill site on Iris Rd NE in Rio Rancho)

    Materials NOT ACCEPTED at the landfill:

    -Household Hazardous Waste NOT ACCEPTED:

    • Bio Medical Waste – No Sharps – Ammunition – Flares
    • Fire Works – Propane Tanks – Burn Barrels or Ashes

    -Commercial Hazardous Waste, which typically includes the following commercial grade items, NOT ACCEPTED:

    • Mercury Containing Items – Solvents
    • Bio Medical Waste (Sharps) – Ammunition – Fire Arms – Flares
    • Fire Works – Propane Tanks – Burning Trash – Burn Barrels or Ashes
    • Barbecue Charcoal –  Televisions

    -Industrial Hazardous Waste or Industrial Solid Waste, which typically includes the following industrial grade items, NOT ACCEPTED:

    • Aerosol spray cans – Electronic Devices – Pesticides- Antifreeze- Fuels
    • Paints- Car Batteries- Florescent light Bulbs – Pool Chemicals – Cleaners
    • Mercury Containing Items – Solvents – Computers – Oil and Oil Filters
    • Bio Medical Waste (Sharps) – Ammunition – Fire Arms – Flares
    • Fire Works – Propane Tanks – Burning Trash – Burn Barrels or Ashes
    • Barbecue Charcoal – Dead Animals – Televisions

    -Metal Frame Demolition With Concrete NOT ACCEPTED

    -Concrete larger than 3 feet NOT ACCEPTED

    -Vehicle bodies and trailers to include the following, NOT ACCEPTED:
    Passenger vehicles, boats, trailers, camping trailers, overhead campers, mobile homes, motorcycles, engine blocks, riding lawnmowers and riding wheelchairs

    Cuba – Collection or convenience station is located at 51 Southern All Around Road, Cuba, New Mexico

    Hours of operation are Wednesday and Saturdays only from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., pick-up size loads only, no trailer or commercial loads. Trailer loads must go to the County landfill.

    All loads must be tarped, an additional no tarp fee will be added: $5 residential, no commercial loads accepted.

    Canon – Collection or convenience station is located at 118 Hwy 4, Canon, NM

    Hours of operation are Wednesday and Saturdays only from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., pick-up size loads only, no trailer or commercial loads. Trailer loads must go to the County landfill.

    All loads must be tarped, an additional no tarp fee will be added: $5 residential, no commercial loads accepted.

    Pena Blanca – Collection or convenience station is located at22 Camino de Comunida, Pena Blanca, NM

    Hours of operation are Wednesday and Saturdays only from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., pick-up size loads only, no trailer or commercial loads. Trailer loads must go to the County landfill.
