Landfill

The Sandoval County Landfill is located at 2708 Iris Rd NE, Rio Rancho, NM. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, from 8am to 4pm.

Loads larger than a standard pickup truck must be in the gate before 3:30 PM.

The Landfill is closed on Sundays and most holidays. Inclement weather may also cause a closure.

Payment: Cash or business checks only. Commercial companies can establish an account by completing this Credit Application and returning it to the Landfill.

Note: All loads must be tarped, or an additional No Tarp Fee will be added ($5 Residential, $20 Commercial).

Household Hazardous Waste — Temporarily Suspended effective March 23, 2026.

Only residential grade items to include: aerosol spray cans, pesticides, anti-freeze, fuels, paints, car batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, pool chemicals, cleaners, solvents, computers, oil/oil filters.

  • Fire Works – Propane Tanks – Burning Trash – Burn Barrels or Ashes
  • Barbecue Charcoal – Televisions

Industrial Hazardous Waste or Industrial Solid Waste

Typically includes the following industrial-grade items:

  • Aerosol spray cans – Electronic Devices – Pesticides- Antifreeze- Fuels
  • Paints- Car Batteries- Fluorescent light Bulbs - Pool Chemicals – Cleaners
  • Mercury Containing Items – Solvents – Computers - Oil and Oil Filters
  • Bio Medical Waste (Sharps) – Ammunition – Fire Arms – Flares
  • Fire Works – Propane Tanks – Burning Trash – Burn Barrels or Ashes
  • Barbecue Charcoal – Dead Animals – Televisions

Other Materials Not Accepted

  • Metal Frame Demolition With Concrete
  • Concrete larger than 3 feet
  • Vehicle bodies and trailers to include the following: Passenger vehicles, boats, trailers, camping trailers, mobile homes, motorcycles, engine blocks, riding lawnmowers, and motorized wheelchairs

Sandoval County Convenience Centers accept residential trash at the locations listed below.
