About This Facility

Public safety is a key responsibility of Sandoval County government, and its Detention Center reflects this commitment to our residents, employees, and those within the Detention Center's care. The Sandoval County Detention Center, which is New Mexico Counties Accredited through the Adult Detention Standards Council, is approximately 50,000 square feet with the capacity to house 500 detainees. Currently, the detainee population averages 125. It is a well-maintained detention center, and in the past five years, it has undergone multi-million-dollar renovations and remodeling updates, including a new camera system, cell doors, body scanner, plumbing, air conditioning, paint, and additional eight-foot barbed-wire fencing along the southern perimeter of the facility. The goal is public safety and protecting the lives of our residents, employees, vendors, and detainees.

Mission Statement

It is the Mission of the Sandoval County Detention Center to protect the citizens of our community while providing respect and dignity in a safe and humane environment for detainees and staff in accordance with New Mexico Adult, and the Federal Performance Based Detention Standards.

The Sandoval County Detention Center (SCDC) houses inmates who are being held on various charges from several jurisdictions. SCDC operates under specific rules for the protection of staff, inmates, visitors, vendors, and the community.

Visitation Information

The Sandoval County Detention Center staff works to ensure the safety of the community, staff, and inmate population. It securely houses the incarcerated and provides them with services and medical care. Only personnel and vendors essential to the SCDC's day-to-day operations are permitted into the facility.

Only video visitation between SCDC detainees and their visitors is allowed. Sandoval County's video system provides remote access from any computer or mobile device, and there also is a video console located in the Detention Center. This technology gives families and visitors from anywhere in the country the ability to be together with their loved ones who are incarcerated. Video visitation also increases public safety and reduces staffing costs.
