The month of August is National Dog Month, and it also happened to be National Dog Day on August 26, 2026, and the pups of Sandoval County were recognized by a proclamation sponsored by Sandoval County Commissioner Katherine A. Bruch, District 1.
Not only were the four-legged friends highlighted, but the Sandoval County Animal Services department staff and volunteers were also recognized for their dedication and hard work. Animal Care Services Assistant Director Kimberly Jaramillo presented certificates of appreciation for the department's Youth Volunteers.
Recipients of the certificates were Alana Schalk along with her mother Michelle Shalk, Justice Littlejohn along with his father Kevin Littlejohn, and Bailey Key along with her mother Elizabeth Keys.

Callie, a 6-year-old Collie, Border / Retriever, Black Labrador mix, also made her appearance, and she is currently available for adoption through Sandoval County Animal Services.
