When completed, Paseo del Volcan would be a 30.6-mile road stretched between U.S. 550 and Interstate 40, snaking through Rio Rancho, Sandoval County, Bernalillo County and Albuquerque. Seven miles of the road is already constructed, from U.S. 550 to Unser Boulevard. The road would extend west from there, then swing south on the west side of Double Eagle II Airport to I-40.
According to Parsons Brinckerhoff, development along the road from 2005 to 2011 led to just over 1,900 permanent jobs, with over $490 million invested in businesses. Businesses cited in the report include Hewlett-Packard and the Santa Ana Star Center, Rio Rancho City Hall, CNM Rio Rancho, UNM West, UNM Regional Sandoval County Medical Center and Cleveland High School.
The next steps for Paseo del Volcan have a number of supporters.
