Community Health Program Taking Part in Statewide Insurance Enrollment Event

Posted: 01/07/2015

Sandoval County is one of 31 New Mexico Communities hosting events this Saturday, January 10, 2015 to help people enroll in insurance plans through BeWellNM, the state’s official Health Insurance Exchange.

This statewide enrollment effort is taking place several days ahead of the January 15 deadline to help individuals and families shop, compare and sign up for health insurance effective February 1.

The local event will be held from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Sandoval County Health Commons, 1500 Idalia Road, Building B, in Bernalillo.

Free assistance will be provided by state-certified enrollment counselors and brokers, helping New Mexico residents identify plans that fit a variety of needs and budgets. January 15 is the enrollment deadline for consumers seeking coverage that begins on February 1.  Those that do not sign up by January 15, 2015 will have until February 15, 2015, but coverage won’t begin until March 1, 2015.

In preparation for Saturday’s events, consumers can check the BeWellNM website at http://www.bewellnm.com/how-to-enroll to learn what information or paperwork may be needed to enroll for health coverage. The primary required documents are proof of identity, residence, and citizenship (or legal status).  Anyone seeking financial assistance in paying for insurance also must  bring information documenting their income such as their last two pay stubs, W2’s or last year’s tax return.

Applicants also are advised to make a list of questions they may want to ask, such as, “Will any of my current prescriptions be covered by this plan?” or “Will I be able to keep my doctor?”

BeWellNM is an affordable alternative for New Mexico residents who don’t have insurance offered through their workplace or are without health insurance. It is the only place where New Mexicans can get financial assistance or tax credits for health care (nearly 75 percent of all consumers enrolled through BeWellNM receive financial assistance).

For those unable to attend Saturday’s events, you can make a one-on-one appointment with an Enrollment Counselor or Broker in your community by calling 1-855-99-NMHIX or by visiting http://www.bewellnm.com/were-here-to-help.

Enrollment counselors and insurance brokers/agents are available throughout the state to help with signing up for New Mexico Health Exchange coverage.
