Canine Career Day

Rubble, the German Shepard K-9 detention officer at the Sandoval County Detention Center, and his handler, Deputy Warden Chris Urbanic, recently visited a local elementary school to demonstrate how dogs work in public safety. The duo showed how Rubble performed tasks at his handler’s command and how those tasks help bring safety and safekeeping to people in challenging situations. Deputy Warden Urbanic also explained to students that Rubble was a law enforcement officer and not a pet, even though he lives with the Deputy Warden. This distinction is an important one because when people see K-9 officers at work, they understand that they have a job to do, and that job is public safety.
