Fire Dept Rescue K-9 Assists Sheriff’s Office

Recently, KRQE-TV sat down with Sandoval County Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedic Shannon Farrell and her search and rescue K-9 named KT. The story focused on the amazing and unique asset that the Sandoval County Fire Department has to better serve our community and communities across the state. The Sandoval County Fire Department is proud to partner with local law enforcement, including our very own Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, to bring closure to families and also to help find valuable evidence in criminal cases just like the recent death investigation from the West Rio Rancho Mesa.

Shannon and KT have undergone years of training and certification to serve our community in this capacity. In addition to being able to locate human remains, KT is also trained in live rescue recovery, meaning she helps locate lost hikers, campers, etc. when we receive a call for assistance. This dog is more than just man’s best friend, she is also an invaluable part of the Sandoval County Fire Department and the Rio Grande Basin Heavy Technical Rescue Team. We are proud to have her as a member of our team and proud that she is able to help with incidents not only in our county, but across the state of New Mexico.
