Commissioner Joshua A. Jones, District 5 (second from right) presented Amina Everett (center) with the County’s Juneteenth Proclamation at the June 28, 2023 meeting of the Sandoval County Board of County Commissioners. Joining them are Chair David J. Heil, District 4 (far right); Vice Chair Michael Meek, District 3, (left of Ms. Everett); Commissioner Jay C. Block, District 2, (second from left); and Commissioner Katherine A. Bruch, District 1 (far left). Juneteenth, a federal holiday in the United States, commemorates the day when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom–more than two months after the end of the Civil War and more than two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
