The Sandoval County Senior Program is hosting a series of activities throughout the month of May in recognition of Older Americans Month.

Each year, the county participates in this nationwide celebration that acknowledges the significant contributions that senior citizens have made, and continue to make, to ensure a better life for future generations. Thisy year’s acknowledgement includes a proclamation issued by the Sandoval County at its May 7, 2015 meeting declaring May Older Americans Month throughout the county.

The proclamation read, in part, “Whereas our community can provide opportunities to enrich the lives of individuals of all ages . .  . THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that the governing body of Sandoval County, the Board of County Commissioners, does hereby designate the month of May 2015 as Older Americans Month.”

The month-long celebration began with a lunch and dance at the Bernalillo Senior Center on May 1, 2015. The major event of the month is a picnic and health fair scheduled for May 15, 2015 at Rotary Park in Bernalillo. The health fair begins at 10:00 am. The picnic is scheduled for 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Events also are scheduled at senior centers in Jemez, Cuba and Placitas during the month. See the full schedule here.
