Please review the FAQs below to determine who you need to contact in regards to a lost pet.

The Lost Pet posting looks like my pet
If you have identified one of our Lost Pet postings as potentially being your pet, please contact Dispatch at (505) 891-7226. They will get you in touch with an Animal Control Officer to provide you with more information and verify ownership.

I am interested in adopting a Lost Pet
If you are interested in adopting an animal, you must first complete the application found HERE and return it to sandovalpets@sandovalcountynm.gov.
You will be subsequently contacted by a Community Services staff member regarding next steps.

What does it mean the Lost Pet has been placed with a foster
Some animals need extra care and attention or may be too young to be held at our holding facility. If this is the case, we will place the Lost Pet with a foster during the three (3) day hold period. Once the hold has expired, the animal will be placed with a partnering shelter or rescue organization.

The Lost Pet has been transferred to another facility
If the Lost Pet has been transferred to a partnering shelter or rescue organization, you must contact that organization for further information on the pet. Sandoval County Animal Welfare only holds the animal for three (3) days after intake of the animal. After the three (3) day hold has expired, the animal is transferred.
