County Offering Discount Cards for Prescriptions and Health Services

Sandoval County residents can get cards that will yield savings on prescription medicines and some health services, thanks to a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) Live Healthy program offers all county residents the opportunity to save money with discounts on everyday prescriptions, dental and health services and procedures. Residents can save an average of 24%* off the retail price of prescription medicine and 5% to 50% on the cost of dental and health check-ups, cleanings, fillings, vision services, hearing aids, diabetes supplies, prepaid laboratory tests and more.

The discount cards are available to all county residents, those with and without health insurance, as an added way to save on the cost of health care. The prescription cards are free to all residents; there is no fee to join.

The dental and health discount programs require a low, monthly or annual fee to join. The Live Healthy Discounts Program is NOT health insurance. There are no annual limits placed on use, no forms to fill out, no waiting periods, no age or income requirements and no medical condition restrictions.

The Sandoval County Commission voted to join the Live Healthy Discounts Program at its May 7, 2015 meeting. At that time, Commissioner Glenn Walters said a presentation on the program at NACo’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. convinced him it would benefit Sandoval County residents.

“Many Sandoval County families face high costs when paying for health care,” Commissioner Walters said. “We are very excited to be able to offer discounts that can lead to tangible savings on the everyday costs of prescription medicine as well as dental and health procedures and services. The Live Healthy Prescription, Dental and Health Discounts Program will make it easier for our residents to afford the services they need to live healthy right here in Sandoval County. While the health and dental programs require fees, the prescription discount is free and can include pet prescription medicine”

County residents can get the free Prescription Discount Cards by going to nacorx.org to register and download a free card or they can call toll-free 877-321-2652 to join. A limited number of cards also are available at the Sandoval County Administration Building, 1500 Idalia Rd., Building D, in Bernalillo.

This program is administered by CVS/Caremark and includes discounts on prescription medications at more than 68,000 pharmacies nationwide. Residents simply present the discount card at a participating retail pharmacy along with their prescriptions, and save an average of 24%* on the cost of the prescription drugs. There are no limits on how many times the card can be used. One card can be used for the whole family, including pet prescription medicine.
