Placitas resident James F. Holden-Rhodes has been appointed to the District 1 seat on the Sandoval County Commission.
New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez presented Mr. Rhodes with a letter announcing the appointment on Monday, August 28, 2017.
Holden-Rhodes retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after 31 years of military service in the U.S. Marine Corps and Army. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree and a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Because he was appointed to complete the term of a commissioner who resigned from the seat, Holden-Rhodes will serve as District 1 Commissioner until the next election, which is scheduled for November 2018. He will be eligible to run for a full term during that election.
County officials expect to have Holden-Rhodes sworn in before the next regularly scheduled county commission meeting, on September 7, 2017.
